Three sports scientists and friends, one bold idea. This is how we became BaseLab.

Co-Founder

Who are we?

We are BaseLab. We are a new generation of specialists with one simple mission. We want to make our data-backed services available to everyone, not just highly trained athletes — although we welcome those as well.

We are Thomas Bernhard, Silvan Lenzlinger, and Jan-Niklas Kreppke. We bring together many years of professional experience as trained strength and conditioning coaches, rehabilitative sport therapists, and PhD-informed exercise and movement scientists. Over the years we’ve spent countless hours working with whole teams, and with athletes and individuals one-on-one. We use state-of-the-art equipment and science-backed data: to understand the bodies of our clients, and give them the right tools and insights to be their best selves.

Three friends, three different backgrounds.

We like to think of BaseLab like a pyramid: on the face of it, there are three points — Thomas, Silvan, and Jan, all with disparate backgrounds within the field of sports science. Yet the base infrastructure of a pyramid has four areas, where our services lie: athletic performance, prevention, rehabilitation, and consulting. Each zone works together to meet a point at the top — where our clients can empower themselves to achieve their health and fitness goals.

From a pipedream to reality

We’ve been immersed within the worlds of sport, science, and technology for some time. Quite some time, in fact: we first met at university. Back then however, we weren’t close friends — it was only by chance that we all joined the dodgeball team that we came into each other’s orbit. Soon though, we realized how much we had in common, both professionally and personally. Our skills came together almost too cohesively, so starting a company was effortless: It was like, ‘hey, we are friends, we have a similar professional path, we’re aligned. We have these common beliefs, we should do this.’ Big advantage.

The best thing about it

Starting a business with your close friends is wonderful. You know each other’s skillset inside and out, which makes you dynamic and approachable. You can skip all of the discussions surrounding trust and honesty, because this is already a given.

What we actually do

We are a combination of specialists, who give a 360 degree approach on the athlete backed by science and in-field experience. Everyone works together collaboratively, on the same hierarchy, and with the same impact, to create holistic training programs, monitoring and feedback, and sport-specific rehabilitation. This approach is our bread and butter, and helps us to adapt to the needs of the athlete quickly. We also have partners who we work closely with, such as doctors and nutritionists, who can give corrective feedback. So if you’re a high-performance athlete and you suddenly break your leg, you’ll still have contact with the same experts, but the program will adapt with laser-sharp focus to your new needs.

Just one prerequisite: have a goal.

We want to give people a sense of agency over their agility. Which can enable them to improve or recover. So we’ll sit down with you to discuss your goals and the activities you currently do, and then record your data, and design an individualized program, in accordance with any problems you may have. What we’ve learned through our research, testing, and development is that this isn’t just about training people for the sake of it. This is about helping people to achieve their dreams. Which is why, if you have one, you’re already half-way there. “Everybody needs to have a goal. If they have a goal and want to reach it, we can help them get there. We love the stories behind what drives every athlete or person, and we want to learn from them in return, too.”
